  • Share how you have seen God in the Highs and Lows of your week.

Prayer:

  • Pray that God would lead your discussion time and bring fresh insight, conviction, and hope through your time together.

Read:

  • Context: Work as group to put together a picture of what is happening in the story:

    • Zechariah and Elizabeth are both older, past age of normally having babies!

    • Zechariah’s turn in these duties was a 1 in 24k chance

    • The Word of God has not come prophetically to Israel for hundreds of years

  • Read the passage out loud together.

Reflect:

  • Share about a time where the only explanation for something that happened to you was, “God is faithful to His promises.

  • Discuss the phrase, “Any hope is only as good as the one Who offers it” in light of Zechariah’s song (Luke 1:68-79)

    • There was a prophetic description of John’s mission in Zechariah’s song- talk about this

    • Prepare the way for the Lord (Why, what was John’s message to be?)

    • Give His people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins (Salvation from what, hope in what?)

  • Discuss the significance of “Salvation

    • Past Penalty of sin: Salvation from what? (Romans 3:19-24; Rom 6:22-23; Eph 2:8,9)

    • Present Power of sin: Being made holy, being transformed into Christ’s image (Rom 6:17,18; Hebrews 10:14; 2 Cor 3:18)

    • Future Presence of sin: Describe the world AFTER Jesus returns and establishes His Kingdom (1 John 3:2; Rev 21,22)

Respond:

  • What aspects of God’s “very great salvation” is most meaningful to you, right now?

  • Share as a group or in 2s or 3s.
