Your Move: Generosity

2 Corinthians 9:1-6 and other Scriptures

Connect:

  • Share how you have seen God in the Highs and Lows of your week.

  • Discuss how resolutions made last week in “growing more like Jesus” worked themselves out – what God did in and through you (Phil. 2:13) Celebrate and thank God for those together and pray with those who experienced some “Lows” this week, for God’s encouragement for them.

Prayer:

Pray that God would lead your discussion time and bring fresh insight, conviction, and hope through your time together.

Review:

We are launching into a new series looking at 6 aspects of a growing faith and a strong church! The last few weeks we have looked at Grace, Growth, Groups, Gifts… and this week we look at how God gives us the opportunity give!

The Grand Tour of the message: Thinking back on what you heard this Sunday…

o What did you learn about God?

o What did you learn about people?

o What did you learn about yourself?

o What do you want to commit to putting into practice?

Reflect:

Scott started out this weekend saying, “God doesn’t want something ‘for’ us; He wants something ‘for’ us. Share about a time when God surprised you after you had given to help someone else!

Discuss the following Scriptures and read the verses in context— how does God support our generosity in spite of what is working against it:

  • God gives us the ability to produce wealth… and we still have to work REALLY HARD to make it! How is God’s work and our work related in this call to generosity? (Deuteronomy 8:11-18, 1 Chronicles 29:10-14, Matthew 10:7-8,)

  • How can (and why would) we sustain a lifestyle of living generously? (2 Corinthians 9:6-10, Luke 6:38, Proverbs 11:24-25 and 22:9,)

  • Discuss the characteristics of giving that pleases God. ( 2 Corinthians 8:1-5 and 12-15 and 9:7, Acts 20:34-35, 2 Samuel 24:21-24,)

  • Fear is a factor in pretty much every sphere of life; generosity is no different. How can our choice to be generous offer an opportunity to grow our faith: ( 1 Kings 17:8-16, Mark 12:41-44, 1 Timothy 6:17-19,)

  • How can our generosity promote, or in some instances steal, God's glory? ( 2 Corinthians 9:11-15, Philippians 4:10-20, Matthew 6:1-4,)

  • Giving inspires giving— how does that work, and what can we see here that helps us view ‘giving’ as ‘leadership’? (2 Corinthians 8:9 and 9:1-2, Exodus 25:1-2 and 8-9, and 36:2-7,)

  • Discus ROI in the Kingdom of God in reference to these parables? ( Luke 10:29-37 and 14:12-14, Matthew 25:34-40,)

Respond:

Scott talked about the connection between generosity and Spiritual growth. Spend some time praying that God would release that kind of growth in our lives, and surprise us as He works with and beyond our means!
