The Mandate: Our Commission to Engage God’s Mission

Romans 10:14, 15, and various Scriptures

Connect:

  • Share how you have seen God in the Highs and Lows of your week.

  • Discuss how resolutions made last week in “growing more like Jesus” worked themselves out – what God did in and through you (Phil. 2:13) Celebrate and thank God for those together and pray with those who experienced some “Lows” this week, for God’s encouragement for them.

Prayer:

Pray that God would lead your discussion time and bring fresh insight, conviction, and hope through your time together.

Review:

We are launching into a new series looking at the mandate we have as Disciples of Jesus Christ to reach all peoples of the world with the message of the Gospel in a way that they can understand and respond to God’s offer of salvation! Last week we looked at God’s heart for all nations across the narrative of Scripture, and this week we look at our part, our “commission” to get engaged in what God is doing!

The Grand Tour of the message: Thinking back on what you heard this Sunday…

o What did you learn about God?

o What did you learn about people?

o What did you learn about yourself?

o What do you want to commit to putting into practice?

Reflect:

We are all afraid of something, and fear of failure/ fear of meeting a challenge that is simply too much for us, can be paralyzing! Talk about how you handle fear when following God’s lead in obedience to something He is calling you to do.

  • Why do you think earnest, united prayer usually precedes a move of God in saving an unreached people group? (Acts 4:29-31, Ephesians 6:16-20, Acts 26:15-18)

  • What has to change in the heart of a person when they repent for God to show them mercy, even after a lifetime of rebellion against Him? (Proverbs 21:1, 1 Kings 21:25-29, 2 Chronicles 33:9-13)

  • How does God overcome our fears? (1 John 4:16-19, 2 Timothy 1:6-7, Proverbs 28:1)

  • God delights to manifest His power in multiplying our sincere human efforts! Talk about why and how He works in power through His very limited people! (Judges 7:2-7, 2 Corinthians 1:8-11, Zechariah 4:8-10)

  • How does moving forward in God's purposes against overwhelming odds build our faith? (Judges 7:12-22, 2 Chronicles 20:12 and 15 and 20-23, Joshua 1:5-9)

  • Discuss how God's Word command us to respond when we are persecuted-- why do you think God calls for this kind of response? (1 Peter 3:13-17, Luke 6:27-36, Matthew 5:43-48, Romans 12:14-21)

  • How does God respond to our determination to persevere in challenging circumstances? (1 Peter 4:12-19, Hebrews 10:35-39, Galatians 6:9)

Respond:

Mark ended the message this week by talking about the way that two things always happen during a mighty move of God’s Spirit in reviving His church: deep repentance and broad sowing of the Gospel! Spend some time praying today that the Lord would revive His church— both here at ZCC and around the world!
