Your Move: Grace

Romans 3:23,24 and other Scriptures

Connect:

  • Share how you have seen God in the Highs and Lows of your week.

  • Discuss how resolutions made last week in “growing more like Jesus” worked themselves out – what God did in and through you (Phil. 2:13) Celebrate and thank God for those together and pray with those who experienced some “Lows” this week, for God’s encouragement for them.

Prayer:

Pray that God would lead your discussion time and bring fresh insight, conviction, and hope through your time together.

Review:

We are launching into a new series looking at 6 aspects of a growing faith and a strong church! This week we look at the starting point of the whole Christian life: GRACE!

The Grand Tour of the message: Thinking back on what you heard this Sunday…

o What did you learn about God?

o What did you learn about people?

o What did you learn about yourself?

o What do you want to commit to putting into practice?

Reflect:

Grace” means “unmerited favor. Describe a time when someone else showed you favor that you had definitely not earned. What happened, how did it make you feel, and how did that help mold the relationship you had with that person?

  • Isaiah 64:6 tells us that our “Righteous deeds” are like “Filthy rags” (as in used TP!). Talk about that— why would a “righteous” act be “filthy”?

  • How does Scripture affirm that we cannot earn salvation through good works, but ONLY receive it by God's Grace? ( Galatians 2:15-16 and 20-21, Romans 3:19-26, Luke 18:9-14,)

  • How does the complete and unchanging holiness of our God help us to realize our need for repentance and acknowledgement of our need for a Savior? ( James 1:13-17 and 2:10-11, John 16:7-11,)

  • Scripture talks about us as “lost”— contrast the difference between “lost” and “found” in the following Scriptures. How does this help us see why JESUS had to find US, not vice versa? (Luke 5:29-32 and 15:1-7 and 19:1-10,)

  • As Pastor Scott said  "Jesus invites us into a grace exchange." Let’s explore how Scripture talks about that… ( Romans 5:6-11 and 20-21, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21, John 3:3-8)

  • What role did baptism play in the early church among these brand new believers (in an increasingly hostile environment)? (Acts 2:37-39, Matthew 28:18-20, 1 Peter 3:21-22,)

  • What are some of the hindrances we may encounter that stop our growth in Christ-likeness? (Matthew 13:18-23, James 1:22-25, Hebrews 12:15,)

  • How does keeping our focus on God motivate our commitment to serve Him? (Isaiah 6:1-8, Proverbs 29:18,  Acts 2:14-21,)

Respond:

Scott ended the message with an invitation to accept the work of Jesus Christ as payment for our sins, to acknowledge Jesus’ Lordship over our lives, and live in this “Exchanged Life” that Scripture talks about. Spend some time praying together, thanking God for His “very great salvation”!
