Review:
We are moving into a series called “Election Direction” where we are looking at Biblical teaching and principles that help to ground us as believers in a deeply fragmented nation moving into election season. This week, our focus is on “Saving Americans”…
The Grand Tour of the message: Thinking back on what you heard this Sunday…
o What did you learn about God?
o What did you learn about people?
o What did you learn about yourself?
o What do you want to commit to putting into practice?
Reflection:
Personal Experience:
What are some fears or hopes that you have heard cycling around social media, conversations, and so on?
How does the ethic of “seek first the Kingdom of God” affect your understanding of the church’s role and identity during this polarized time?
Group Discussion:
1. Why does Paul emphasize the importance of praying for all people, including those in authority, in 1 Timothy 2:1-2? What about unjust or corrupt rulers?
2. How does John 3:16 shape our understanding of God's priorities and how should this influence our interactions with others, especially those with differing political views?
3. What does it mean to love your neighbor as yourself, particularly in the context of political disagreements, as stated in Matthew 22:37-39?
4. The church's mission is to make disciples rather than to save America through political means. How does this perspective affect our approach in God-honoring political engagement?
Response:
Our engagement as citizens of faith matters, and the best way to confront the way people of faith are portrayed in the media is to engage locally with character, love, courage, truth and grace. Spend some time praying that the Lord would use you this election season to draw people’s attention to the God Who loves each of them with an everlasting love! Pray that God would draw our hearts as a nation back to Him!
