Review: Remind the group of the focus of this series:

o   This series takes us deeper into our walk with God through focusing on prayer— not only talking to God, but listening!

o   Please remind your group about signing up for the 24-40 prayer slots, and/or engaging in one of our prayer events upcoming!

Read the passage together: John 14:12-14

Reflect:

Pastor Scott opened with the question, “Do we have an effective prayer life?” Discuss what an “effective” prayer life means.

In the spirit of savoring the results of a life of prayer, Pastor Scott talked about 5 rewards of Prayer in our life and walk with the Lord; which one is most meaningful to you? Why?

o   Need to pray to see answers to prayer!

o   Wisdom to endure trials

o   Courage to face opposition

o   Power to overcome temptation

o   See God work miracles

Refer to John 14:12-14. Discuss this passage.

o  What does it mean to “ask in Jesus’ Name?” (aligned with His intent and character, in submission to His will and ways).

o  How do our own motives affect the effectiveness of our prayer life? (James 4:1-10)

Read James 1:2-5. Discuss this passage

o   How is our own will involved in the work God is doing in us ref: “…let perseverance finish its work” (NIV)?

o   If God has a purpose in our pain that we do not see/ understand, how does God’s ‘end game’ of ‘wisdom’ make the journey worth the trials? Why is wisdom that important?

Read Acts 4:23-24, 29-31. Discuss the passage

o   If their boldness was offensive to the culture/leaders of the day, how did they navigate that tension?

o   This passage says they prayed for God to move in power, and the place where they met was shaken, and they were filled with the Holy Spirit, and spoke boldly! Are you ready to pray that prayer?

Respond:

o   We sometimes forget that God is All He says He is— seated on the throne of Heaven, Almighty, Holy, eternal, all wise….

  • Spend some time in prayer together focusing your prayer on the awesome Person of God Himself, and pray that He will move in His power through your lives this week!
