Review:

In a world constantly telling us we need more—more success, more knowledge, more spirituality, more control—the book of Colossians points us back to one unshakable truth: Jesus is enough. Paul writes to followers of Jesus who were being tempted to add other things to Jesus, but he reminds them that everything they truly need is already found in him. From our identity and transformation to our relationships, purpose, and mission, Jesus is not merely part of life—he is the center of it all. This series will explore how a bigger vision of Jesus changes everything. This week we looked at the way counterfeit spirituality can keep us from living in Christ’s victory…

The Grand Tour of the message: Thinking back on what you heard this Sunday…

o What did you learn about God?

o What did you learn about people?

o What did you learn about yourself?

o What do you want to commit to putting into practice?

Reflection:

Personal Experience & Discussion:

  • Discuss: When life begins to feel “out of control”, what are typical ways that we see people around us respond? Choose a context, *(family, work, etc) and talk about the reactions we have seen among people around us. Some may "‘check out’, others react in panic, others go into ‘boss mode’, etc. What are the responses you have seen, and how effective do you think those responses are?

  • Reflective Discussion (Remember to look at the context of the verses as you are reading! Look for key terms and help the group unpack and define them):

    • Read Col 2:8-14 together

    • There is a difference between being “spiritual” and knowing the God of the Bible. DISCUSS: read through the following Scriptures and discuss how you would explain the difference between those 2 things to a person who has yet to know Jesus. (Ps 1:1-3, Ps 19:7-14, Jer 2:11-13, John 5:39-40, John 10:1-5, 2 Tim 3:14-17, Heb 5:11-14)

    • There are 1000 stories about Jesus out there— was He a teacher, a good moral person, a prophet, a really smart guy… DISCUSS: If a good friend were to ask you, “Who is Jesus?”, how would you respond? Refer the the following verses in your discussion. (John 1:1-18, John 8:54-59, John 14:6-11, Phil 2:5-11, Heb 1:1-4).

    • People often say, “You have to forgive yourself”, not realizing that this is impossible since the debt is not owed to yourself; forgiveness can only ever be received. DISCUSS: How do the following passages help us to understand how forgiveness works and the assurance of forgiveness when we confess our sins, repent, and turn to Jesus as Savior? (Ps 32:1-5, Ps 103, 8-14, Is 1:16-18, Rom 8:1-4, Eph 1:7-8, 1 John 1:5-2:2)

Application:

There are all kinds of ways that we live as if Christ was not enough. Ask the Lord to reveal some of those to you this week as you seek Him, and surrender those areas to His Lordship and yourself to His will in those situations.

Prayer:

Spend some time closing in prayer together thanking God for revealing the truth about Who He Is in Christ!
