Review:

This series, Proof of Life, is looking at how we KNOW that we are saved, born of the Spirit, alive in Christ… and what that looks like in our daily walk! This week we looked at how God reveals Himself through the way we relate to each other… when we do that looking to Jesus and in step with the promptings of His Holy Spirit in our daily lives….

The Grand Tour of the message: Thinking back on what you heard this Sunday…

o What did you learn about God?

o What did you learn about people?

o What did you learn about yourself?

o What do you want to commit to putting into practice?

Reflection:

Personal Experience:

  • Talk about Heaven; what will it feel like to be there, will we recognize each other, what language would be spoken, what does it mean that streets will be made of gold that is “clear as glass”… what will it be like to be in the personal, visible presence of the Almighty Creator God, to see Jesus…

    Group Discussion:

  • Read 1 John 4:7-8

    • Most of us feel like we are pretty good people who sincerely love God. Scott said, “We love God as much as we love the person we like the least”. Talk about that.

    • Why is John talking in such a black and white, in or out manner here?

  • Read 1 John 4:9-12

    • God loved us before we loved Him. What does that tell us about God?

    • Because of His love, He sent Jesus as the only possible way that sin could actually be atoned for (the Righteous One taking our sin on Himself). What does that tell us about the depth of sin’s depravity, the power of God’s love and the gravity of Jesus’ sacrifice?

    • Why does John say that because God loved us, we should love one another; what’s the connection?

    Read 1 John 4:13-18

    • What does it mean that God has “given us of His Spirit”?

    • John says, “We know and rely on the love God has for us”. Know how? Rely on for what?

    • What does it mean to “Live in love” [so as to] “live in God and God in them”?

    • How does perfect love drive out fear?

Application:

Does the way we love others indicate that the Spirit of God is at work in us?

Prayer:

Spend some time praying together, thanking God for this gift of His Son’s sacrifice for us, the power of His Spirit to love others, and the purposes He has in all of it!
