Review:

We are moving into a series called “Relationships worth fighting for”. This week, we are looking at the topic “Fighting for your family” and Bible-based strategies that help us do that.

The Grand Tour of the message: Thinking back on what you heard this Sunday…

o What did you learn about God?

o What did you learn about people?

o What did you learn about yourself?

o What do you want to commit to putting into practice?

Reflect:

Experience:

  • What difference would it make it the divorce rate and the single parent rate were both cut in half over the next 5 years? Talk about the effects of a sea change in those two areas on neighborhoods, national poverty rates, socio-economic gaps, etc.

Read Joshua 24:1, 14, 15; Psalm 20:7, Romans 12:2

  • What is the connection between “trusting in God” and “Staying faithful to God”?

  • How would you turn that into a prayer for your marriage, relationships…?

Read 2 Timothy 2:3-7, 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

  • Talk about what it takes to prepare to WIN a race, and then compare that to what it takes to honor God in your marriage, relationships…

  • Encourage your group members to get started on their Yada (singles) or BetterLove (couples) assessments from Les & Leslie Parrott. Text zyada or zBetterLove respectively to get started!

  • What does it mean to declare, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”? Talk about what we are actually saying when we commit to do that.

Respond:

Serving God is a matter of committing ourselves to living out the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23), the will of God (Phil 2:13), and the love of God and our neighbor (Mark 12:28-31). We can do that in the context of our marriage and relationships with others. If you are married/ engaged/ dating, take some time as a couple to make this your prayer: “God, we ask that other’s would be drawn to YOU because of the character of our relationship with EACH OTHER.” If you are single right now, form a small group with other singles in your LG and pray a prayer of commitment to honor Him in the character of your relationships with others in your sphere of influence.
